New additions (5) :: The Raconteurs and more :: FIBERS AGAINST AIDS

Jack White (The White Stripes) and Brendan Benson are the main driving forces behind The Raconteurs. They, along with Patrick Keeler and Jack Lawrence, are responsible for ‘Broken Boy Soldiers’ (2006) and the recently released ‘Consolers of the Lonely’ (2008), two hard rock albums with psychedelic and progressive touches that are at times reminiscent of past heroes of theirs like The Amboy Dukes and Blue Cheer.

Nada Surf returns to Benicàssim. This New York band, composed of Daniel Lorca, Matthew Caws and Ira Elliott, has been together since 1995. In 1996, they released ‘High/Low’, which yielded the hit ‘Popular’ and was mixed by Ric Ocasek of The Cars. This year Nada Surf has released ‘Lucky’, which maintains the same excellent standards this band has championed since ‘Let Go’ (2002).

To speak of Battles is to speak of an unclassifiable four-guy band with a unique sound rich in nuances and means. These New Yorkers have totally revamped rock, giving it new and mysterious twists that could be compared with a deliciously impossible mix of people like Animal Collective, Tortoise and Aphex Twin.

For those looking to dance until they drop, the FIB Heineken 2008 line-up has more good news: The subtle new-school electronic vibes of the Frenchman Danton Eeprom live, and an outrageous session of unprejudiced electro pop from the Belgians known as The Glimmers are the latest surprises, of many to come, to a line-up with plenty of names to be enjoyed to the max.

From Atlanta, Georgia – Black Lips! One of the last discoveries of the recently deceased and unjustly underappreciated Greg Shaw, the mastermind behind the Bomp! label. Unbeatable garage punk somewhere between Link Wray, The Wylde Mammoths and The Fleshtones.

With their powerful visual and stage presence, Krakovia joins the line-up to inject it with some hard-hitting guitar work and take us down the lewder side of rock-n-roll and through our darkest desires. This Madrid-based band will be performing songs from ‘Road Movie’, their first release for the Subterfuge label.
FIBERS AGAINST AIDS :: FIB Heineken and SATURDAY NIGHT FIBER-Benicàssim Day in Madrid against AIDS

Maraworld is pleased to announce a collaboration project with Designers Against AIDS (DAA), thanks to which we will be developing some very special activities over the next few months, all the proceeds of which will benefit this worthy organisation.

DAA is a non-profit organisation founded in Belgium in 2004 with the mission of raising public awareness about AIDS in the international media. DAA spearheads a variety of initiatives aimed specifically at young people; it reaches out to designers, musicians, artists and other celebrities, requesting the creation of designs which are then printed on T-shirts and other items.

We at Maraworld encourage anyone who might be interested to participate in this project by submitting a design for the official FIBERS AGAINST AIDS T-shirt. The winning design will be awarded with 2 VIP Tickets for one of the two events organised by Maraworld (FIB Heineken or Saturday Night Fiber-Benicàssim Day in Madrid). The T-shirt will be sold exclusively at both events, and all proceeds will benefit DAA.
