Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo (as Gnarls Barkley) amazed one and all with their debut album, ‘St. Elsewhere’ (2006). An explosive mix of a Spaghetti Western soundtrack, hip-hop and soul, it yielded killer songs the likes of ‘Crazy’ and ‘Smiley Faces’. ‘Run’, which is better than a vitamin B-12 shot, is the first single from their second release, ‘The Odd Couple’, slated to hit the stores in the next few months. This calls for a no-holds-barred party on the Green Stage!
Music touched by Artic influences and as fantastical as Symmes’s Hole. As emotional as Berlioz and as intense as Can. From Reykjavik (Iceland), and for the first time at FIB Heineken, Sigur Rós. The double compilation album ‘Hvarf-Heim’ (2007) and the live DVD ‘Heima’ (2007) are the most recent offerings from Jón, Kjartan, Orri and Georg.
Scheduled for release in mid-May is the seventh studio album – ‘Narrow Stairs’ – from the four-guy, Washington-based band led by Ben Gibbard, Death Cab for Cutie. ‘I Will Possess Your Heart’, the first single, shows us that the band is in greater shape than ever, maybe even taking a few cues from Tortoise.
ROCK in capitals and with muscle! My Morning Jacket, the band led by Jim James (songwriter, guitarist and singer), is well known for its excellent live shows, perfectly thrilling in every detail. Their last offering to date, ‘Okonokos’ (2006), was recorded live and stands as proof of this. Their new album, ‘Evil Urges’, is slated for release in June.
The Kills, one of the most peculiar duos in music history, return to FIB Heineken with new material. ‘Midnight Boom’ (2008) is the name of their album, and ‘U.R.A. Fever’ is the first single.
Anton Newcombe, a man who has had a rough life, has overcome all the obstacles along the way to bring his particular emotional chimera to good ends with The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Spiritual psychedelia half way between The 13th Floor Elevators and Spaceman 3.
With eyes still on the upcoming edition of FIB Heineken, we are also happy to announce that Ewan Pearson and Hot Chip will be joining the line-up – two very important names in the world of electronic music today. The former, in addition to his works for labels like Soma, has done remixes for Depeche Mode, Franz Ferdinand, Ladytron, The Chemical Brothers and Goldfrapp. Whereas Hot Chip have released ‘Made in the Dark’, a veritable electronic-pop treatise that is already one of the albums of the year.
The lucky few who have seen them live know that their concerts are flawless: Vincent Vincent & The Villains, with their festive rock-n-roll, and Fujiya & Miyagi, with their experimental pop – both are sure to win over new fans with some highly addictive music.
The synthetic sounds continue with the presence of Josh Wink, who will surely give us an unparalleled acid-techno session. While we’re on the subject of DJs, we are also excited to announce that Tiefschwarz will be with us.
And, if we add in a thrilling performance by Booka Shade (much acclaimed for their live shows), the provocative techtonik vibes of Yelle, the latest synthpop of The Ting Tings, and the revamped big beat of DaPuntoBeat, then a hot rhythm and vibe are assured for FIB Heineken 2008.
From Leeds, and representing the Anticon label, we will be treated to the experimental sounds of Bracken. Minimalist post-rock that is sometimes reminiscent of Genesis P. Orridge.
Last, but certainly not least, it is our pleasure to announce the Spanish artists who will be part of this year’s line-up:
La Casa Azul and their sensational ‘La Revolución Sexual’ have won the hearts of one and all. FIB Heineken is their natural habitat, which is why, in good faith, Guille Milkiway and his virtual screens will be giving us, once again, an unforgettable experience brimming with worthy hits.
Teresa Iturrioz and Ibon Errazkin have written in gold some of the best chapters in the history of Spanish pop music. Now, accompanied by Tito Pintado – anti and ex Penelope Trip – and Joan Vich – also in Jonston – they embody Single.
The melancholy flow of Facto Delafé y las Flores Azules, a band that, day by day, is becoming the national event of the year.
The break up of the seminal band Migala opened up new paths for Abel Hernández. A musician with a time-honoured trajectory and an exceptional singer, Abel – a.k.a. El Hijo – has recently released a truly magical album, ‘Las Otras Vidas’ (2007).
Another album of the year is, without doubt, ‘Alegranza’ (2008) by El Guincho, a national treasure capable of mixing styles with class and groove, and well worthy of the international recognition he has received beyond our borders.
The theatrical interpretations and surreal world of El Niño Gusano are to be found in Manos de Topo.
The winners of Demo Project 2008 – Dani Poveda’s band, Gentle Music Men – are truly making a name for themselves with their exquisite brand of British-flavoured pop, somewhere between The Beatles and Honeybus.
The Marzipan Man and their psychedelic tales in the purest style of Nilsson or Donovan.
On top of all this, in the electronic-music sector we will also be featuring the geometric techno vibes – both dance-inspiring and thought-provocative – of Marc Marzenit.
