At Maraworld we’re aware of the role of festivals not only as cultural and economic catalysts, but also as social catalysts that can take advantage of their communication and influence capacities to inform and spark off a reflection on different social issues.
This is the reason why FIB promotes the informative and awareness campaigns done by several NGO’s and other non-profit organisations.
In 2011 FIB began a collaboration with the NGO Save the Children.
Save the Children is a non-profit, plural, non-denominational and politically independent NGO. Its main objective is active defence of the interests of children, especially of those with fewer means.
It has chapters in 29 countries and is present in over 120 aid programmes. For Save the Children, children come first and they will act wherever they are needed, regardless of politics, ethnicity or religion. From 1919 they work in the main areas related to childhood: education, health, nutrition, child labour, sexual abuse prevention, reuniting children with their families after catastrophes and wars, etc.
They’ve been present in Spain for over 20 years in programmes to aid Spanish children as well as children from all over the world. For Save the Children respect for human rights begins with children. They fight for the idea that being a minor doesn’t mean having fewer rights both in our country and abroad.
In this year’s edition we’ll also collaborate with Energy Control, a group of people concerned with the use of synthetic drugs and other substances in recreational settings. Being present at the Festival setting they can transmit objective truthful information on drugs with the aim of reducing risks and raising awareness on drug use.
