If there was ever a band that was truly ahead of its time, it was The B-52’s. They created a style all their own, not only cutting edge but irresistibly danceable. Many of the bands playing today seem to draw on the inspiration of this groundbreaking band – Chicks on Speed, Art Brut, Scissor Sisters, Clinic, The Sounds, The Yayhoos, The Gossip and many more.

With a vibe both festive to the bone and fiercely intelligent, Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, Cindy Wilson and Keith Strickland have written classic tunes spattered with sounds of the sixties, that B-movie surf sound, with garage undertones and a go-go beat – an absolutely unique, thrilling and winding take on rock. Their always undeniably fresh sound would slip perfectly in any Ray Harryhausen film. The B-52’s remain a veritable force to be reckoned with.

The sound of this band from Athens, Georgia, has a timeless quality. So many of their songs – “Rock Lobster”, “Planet Claire”, “Private Idaho”, “Summer of Love”, “Give Me Back My Man”, Channel Z”, “Love Shack”, “Roam” – are like an always-present parallel dimension that only gets better and better.
