Glasvegas is a band that is making quite a commotion these days. The reason? Songs that win over the ears of all who hear them with a stellar mix of self-confidence and intimacy. An impressive string of singles and a chart-topping album, “Glasvegas” (Columbia, 2008), have earned a special place in the hearts of music lovers for James Allan, Rab Allan, Paul Donoghue and Caroline McKay. James Allan’s engaging lyrics and embracing voice make it impossible not to identify with what he has to say. Not to mention the band’s impeccable sense of melody, which hooks you in from the get-go. It has been said that they are a mix of The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Ronettes and The Clash, and there is some truth to this. But, the real common denominator is melodic genius. Just listen to “Daddy’s Gone”, “Geraldine”, “It’s My Own Cheating Heart that Makes Me Cry” or “Go Square Go!” and you will hear for yourself that this band’s outrageous success is no fluke. Glasvegas is a band of exceptional talent.
