CONDITIONS OF ENTRY FOR THE 9th ANNUAL FIB INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL (2007)

1.- Objectives
Established as one of the most sought-after festivals of both the national and international scene, we present below the requirements for the eighth edition of the FIB International Short Film Festival. This year’s Festival will run from July 16 to July 20 of 2008.

2.- Selection requirements
Twenty-five short films will be selected for the Festival. They may be filmed using any system, but must be presented to the Festival in either 35 mm or 16 mm formats. The filming of all entries must be completed by March 31, 2008. All genres will be accepted for consideration.

In order to be considered for selection, a copy of the short film must be submitted on either VHS or DVD.

The maximum running time for all short-film submissions is 30 minutes.

No entry form is required.

3.- Access to the selection process
All short films received by April 30, 2008, on either VHS (PAL format) or DVD will be considered for selection. In addition to the short film, you must also send three promotional photos of the short film, and one promotional photo of the short film’s director. You must also send a copy of the script (with an English translation if not filmed in English or Spanish). Entries may be sent by post (specifying “no commercial value and for cultural purposes”) or by messenger declaring a shipping value of no more than $25 (USA) or €20.

It is essential that you confirm the format the short film will be projected in, in the copy.

All entries must be sent to the following address:

Festival Internacional de Benicàssim
Manuel Lechón
Apdo. de Correos 18240
28080-MADRID

Participants will be informed of the results before June 10, 2008.

4.- Sending the films
The 35 mm or 16 mm copies must be sent in to the address, to be determined, provided to those entrants who have been selected. Likewise, the shipping method will also be determined for each one of the participants.

Any short films selected that have not been received by June 20, 2008, will be immediately withdrawn from the official programme.

5.- Return of the copies
The films will be returned by the Festival before August 15, 2008. The copies on video of the short films selected will remain in the Festival’s archives where they may be used for reference purposes.

6.- Shipping and insurance
Shipping expenses will be paid by the participants. The return-shipment expenses will be paid by the Festival.

Insurance expenses between the time materials are received and when they are returned will fall to the Festival. In the event a copy is lost or damaged, the Festival will be responsible only for the costs of creating another copy of the short film.

7.- Subtitling
Short films subtitled in Spanish (in the case of short films not filmed/recorded in this language) are preferred. However, short films subtitled in English will also be accepted. No dubbed films will be accepted.

8.- Guests
All the directors of the short films selected will be invited to the Festival from July 16 to July 20, 2008. They will be provided with lodging and meals as well as a stipend for transportation purposes (€90 if coming from the Iberian Peninsula; €180 if coming from beyond).

These expenses will be paid for only one director (or one actor) of each selected short film. This invitation does not extend to third parties.

9.- Awards
- Best Short Film: €6,000, a broadcasting of the short film on the TVE programme “Versión Española”, and the option for inclusion in the DVD set produced for each year of FIB
- Runner-up to Best Short Film: €3,000
- Best Script: €1,500
- Best Actor: €1,500
- Best Actress: €1,500

All of these awards will be determined by a jury made up of five outstanding individuals from the world of culture.

- Audience Award: €1,500

After the showing of each one of the sessions, the audience members will cast votes on paper, evaluating each short film on a scale of 1 (the lowest) to 5 (the highest).

In the event of a tie, the award will be shared in equal parts by the two winning short films.

10.- Televised broadcasts
Participation in the Festival entails providing extracts of the short films to those Spanish and international channels that request them. The maximum length of these extracts will be ten percent of the total running time of the short film, never surpassing three minutes.

11.- Non-specified cases
All such particular cases will be studied by a Festival committee. Special treatment with respect to some of the outlined points may be granted if the committee determines the work requires such treatment.

Participation in the Festival implies absolute acceptance of all the above-mentioned requirements.
